District 55 Changes Hiring/Firing Policies

(BLACKFOOT) – Officials in the Blackfoot School District will no longer use seniority when determining layoffs. Local News 8 reports that the district has started to implement the Students Come First Plan. The district will use a four phase approach starting with natural attrition, those on probation for poor performance, personnel on a plan of improvement, and finally, ranking by qualification. School board chairman J.D. Tolman says the district has enough criteria in place that it is unlikely the fourth phase will be used.
