(POCATELLO) – A Pocatello dog slated for euthanasia got a lucky break last week. Balou, a St. Bernard-Collie mix was accused of violating the city’s dog ordinance twice. The dog’s owner, Megan Layfield, spent a year appealing the case that was on it’s way to the Idaho Supreme Court. Layfield dropped the case in an exchange with Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad to send the dog to a sanctuary in Utah. Blad felt the facility was a safer option than allowing the dog back into the city.
