(SALT LAKE CITY) – A former street preacher indicted in the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart nearly nine years ago has been sentenced in a Salt Lake City court. 57-year-old Brian David Mitchell will serve two life sentences for the kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor across state lines for sex. Smart, who recently returned from service as an LDS missionary in France, says the sentencing marks the end of a long chapter in her life, as well as a beautiful new beginning.
