Man Shot By Police Had Previous Criminal Record
An Idaho Falls man killed by police in a shootout last Friday had an extensive criminal record. 50-year-old Douglas Jay Walters was registered in Bonneville County as a sex offender after sexually abusing a child in 1995. Walters was also convicted last year on a second-degree stalking charge. Police say Walters was wanted on a misdemeanor at the time of the shooting. Officers Malin Reynolds and Bart Whiting were both hospitalized after being injured in the shootout, but have since been released.
