Pocatello Mocha Madness Shooter Unfit for Trial
Published atAn eastern Idaho man accused of shooting a man in the back at a Pocatello coffee shop is still unfit to face felony charges. 54-year-old Gerald Durk Simpson shot 25-year-old Ryan Mitchell as he was leaving Mocha Madness last September. Simpson is currently under supervision at a mental health facility. His victim survived the incident. The shooting later raised concerns that the state was not doing enough for patients cut from the mental health system amid budget restrictions. Officials say Simpson shot Mitchell shortly after being released from a state mental health program.
