CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — Authorities say two children found dead in Castle Rock were smothered.
The bodies of 5-year-old Madigan Murphy and her 9-year-old brother Liam were found May 23. Their mother, 41-year-old Kelli Murphy, was charged with two counts of murder but authorities haven’t previously released details about how the children died.
The Douglas County Coroner’s Office said Friday that the children had been smothered in a homicide but that no other information would be released. Authorities have said that Kelli Murphy called 911 the morning the children were found and said she was going to commit suicide and that her children were in heaven.
Court documents show Murphy and her husband filed for bankruptcy last year and then for divorce in February. Kelli Murphy later tried to withdraw the divorce request. – KJCT
