UPDATED: 14-year-old girl dies from injuries she suffered in a boating accident on Ririe Reservoir

Two Teens In Critical Condition

UPDATE:   At 5:40pm, on July 5, 2011 we had a multi agency response to Ririe Reservoir for a boat accident.
Blaine Peterson was operating a Glastron Boat. He had four people in the boat and was pulling a tube with two fourteen year old girls on it. He was headed toward Juniper Boat Ramp in an area known as the Narrows. Sgt. Jeff Edwards reported that he was negotiating a curve.
Richard Hansen was operating a Glastron Boat. He had eight people in his boat. He was heading toward Blacktail from the Juniper area. As he was coming around the corner near the bank, He came within ten yards of the first boat. He immediately shut down the power to his boat. His boat collided with the tube that the girls were on.
Both girls hit the front of the boat. Both girls were unconscious and breathing. Multiple people helped get the girls out of the water. Another boat transported both girls to the Juniper Boat Dock. The girls had head injuries. One was treated and released last night. The second girl passed away this morning.
Ririe Quick Response Unit was the first on scene. Bonneville Patrol Deputies responded as well as Bonneville and Jefferson County Dive Teams. Portneuf Life Flight transported one girl to EIRMC. Idaho Falls Ambulance transported the second girl to EIRMC.
The investigation is continuing.. We do not have any indications of Drug or Alcohol use.
