(BOISE) – Idaho Department of Correction officials have razed a tribal sweat lodge that served the needs of Native Americans at a south Boise prison for more than 25 years. Officials say the demolition comes after concerns about the health and security of the inmates. The prison’s Native American inmates are frustrated, though officials say they plan on building a new lodge in the future. Federal law requires prisons to make space available for religious services.
