(Caldwell, ID) – Cheyanne Marshall, 20, was identified recently after her body was found in her car after it had crashed into a ditch near the intersection of US 20/26 and US 30. A driver spotted Marshall’s car submerged in the ditch and called police around 7:45 pm on Sunday night.
“When we arrived, all we could see was maybe an inch of the vehicle sticking out of the water,” said Sgt. Kevin Barrow with Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.
It was then that Fire crews located the body of Marshall in the vehicle. The exact time of the crash has not been released, but officials believe the crash took place sometime Saturday. The cause of the crash and Marshall’s death is still under investigation, though authorities said she was not wearing a seat belt. Officials do not know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
“The intersection is a T and it just looks like she failed to see the stop sign and went through the intersection and over the embankment,” Barrow said. “We really don’t know the cause of death. But if somebody is wearing their seat belt then there is a lot better chance of survival.” Marshall is from rural Caldwell.
