Tribes Working to Extend Power in Idaho

(BOISE) – Idaho’s Indian tribes are working to extend their police power over non-tribal members on reservations. Officials are working with the federal government on a package that would federalize tribal police. The move comes after the 2011 Idaho legislature rejected a similar proposal from tribal leaders. Officials believe that extending federal authority to tribal police would mitigate law enforcement gaps on reservations.
