(POCATELLO) – Conservationists are challenging the constitutionality of wolf hunts in Idaho and Montana – yet again. Wendy Keefover, Director of Carnivore Protection for Wildearth Guardians, tells Local News 8 that the delisting was tied to other legislation as a rider and was pushed through Congress illegally. Though over 36,000 wolf tags have been sold in Idaho and Montana, only 77 wolves have been killed this season, out of an estimated 1,200 living in the region. The lawsuit, filed in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday, calls for an end to the hunts by Nov. 7 in order to avoid what is claimed to be “irreparable harm.”
