The New York Post first reported that Rodriguez traveled to Germany so he could receive Orthokine therapy on his right knee and left shoulder. Rodriguez made the trip after Bryant recommended the treatment to the 36-year old Rodriguez.

The treatment Rodriguez went through uses the patient’s own blood, which is drawn from the arm and is then placed in a centrifuge in order to separate a certain protein. That mix with the protein is then injected into the problem area.

Major League Baseball has approved the procedure, and it is even performed in the United States, but Rodriguez went to Germany because the doctor there was at the top of his respective field.

Rodriguez struggled with injuries for much of last season, as he played in just 99 games. He still has six years left on his ten-year, $275 million contract.
