Bobcats’ Biyombo Buying His Way into NBA
Published at(NEW YORK) — Charlotte Bobcats forward Bismack Biyombo is so eager to play in the NBA this season, he’s paying out of his own pocket to make that happen.
The 19-year old is a Congo-native and was still under contract from his Spanish club, Fuenlabrada. His contract isn’t up for another two seasons, and has a $1.5 million buyout clause. Without getting his contract bought out, Biyombo was stuck overseas and couldn’t join his new NBA team.
The Bobcats informed Biyombo that they could only pay $500,000 and not the full $1.5 million. So in an effort to make it to the NBA this season, Biyombo will pay the remaining $1 million so he can join the Bobcats for the upcoming 2011-2012 season.
Biyombo was selected by the Sacramento Kings seventh overall in this past year’s draft, and was traded to the Bobcats on draft night.
