Canadiens Fire Jacques Martin
Published at(MONTREAL) — The Montreal Canadiens fired their head coach Jacques Martin on Saturday.
The Canadiens (13-12-7) are eight games behind in the Northeast Division leaders, the Boston Bruins and the teams recent bad play at home hasn’t made things any easier.
Taking over for Martin will be assistant head coach Randy Cunneyworth who will serve as the interim head coach the rest of the season.
“The primary reason is the team wasn’t performing as well as it should be in our minds,” general manager Pierre Gauthier said during a news conference.
Martin was in his third season with Montreal and 17th in the NHL.
