(NEW YORK) — Celebrities are preparing for another high-profile New Years eve celebration in New York’s Times Square Saturday.
Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are two megastars creating excitement for the close of 2011. But Jeffrey Strauss, president of Countdown Entertainment, says it’s the tradition that makes the night special.
“It’s not when Lady Gaga preforms, it’s right after when she’s pushing the button with the mayor and leading the 60 second countdown,” Strauss says.
Strauss has not only pulled out all the stops for the ceremony. His company has also produced a new Times Square Ball App, which allows viewers to watch the festivities remotely.
Every year, the Times Square ball gets a big makeover. This year, the ball will be adorned with thousands of crystal triangles, with a pattern that represents friends holding hands.
“This year is let there be friendship and it’s not just for the United States, since friendship has world, global feeling sentiment,” Jim O’Leary, the design director at Waterford, said.
