(DALLAS) — It took four games, but the defending NBA champions finally got their first win of the season on Friday night. The Dallas Mavericks (1-3) got by the Toronto Raptors (1-2) 99-86.
Dirk Nowitzki chipped in 18 points and Jason Terry was right behind him with 17.
The last NBA defending champion to start a season 0-4 were the 1969-70 Boston Celtics.
“We’re playing better basketball,” Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said. “The first couple of games were horrible. The last couple of games are games we can build on.”
