DAVEY/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Wide receiver Terrell Owens may finally make his return to football, only it might not be in the NFL. The former all-pro is closing in on a contract with the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League, according to team general manager Drew Pearson and owner Jon Frankel.

The IFL has a 14-game season that is set to begin on February 25, with training camp starting two weeks earlier. The Wranglers, who won league’s Lone Star Division last season, are going to great lengths to sign the 38-year-old.

The team’s website confirmed that an offer has been made to Owens that would pay him somewhere between $250,000 and $500,000 which would make him by far the highest paid player in the league. The deal would also include an ownership stake of “likely 50 percent,” according to Frankel.

After playing for the Cincinnati Bengals last season, Owens suffered a torn ACL during the offseason. Despite his best efforts, Owens has yet to find an NFL team willing to take a chance on him based on his advanced age and checkered history with teams he has been a part of during his 15-year career.
