(NEW YORK) — Three potential blockbusters open in wide release Wednesday in advance of the Christmas holiday weekend. Here’s a closer look:
— The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: The movie adaptation of the best-selling novel stars Daniel Craig as a journalist who works on an unsolved murder case in Sweden with the help of a female punk hacker, played by Rooney Mara. Christopher Plummer also stars in the film, which was helmed by The Social Network director David Fincher. Rated R. [Click here to read a review]
— The Adventures of Tintin: Steven Spielberg directed and Peter Jackson produced the animated adaptation of the titular comic book character — a kid reporter — and his dog, Snowy. Together, Tintin and Snowy investigate a legendary shipwreck. The voice cast of the film, which is screening in 3D, includes Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Rated PG.
And expanding into wide release:
— Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol: In the fourth film in the series, Tom Cruise’s IMF spy character, Ethan Hunt, tries to clear his agency of wrongdoing after he and his crew are blamed for a bombing of the Kremlin.
