Tom Cruise at ‘Mission Impossible’ Premiere: ‘I Want to Entertain’

Fred Duval/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, the fourth film in the Tom Cruise series, opened in IMAX and select theaters last Friday, but the New York premiere was held Monday night.
Cruise is back as spy Ethan Hunt, who tries to clear his team of wrongdoing after it’s blamed for a bombing of the Kremlin. In the film, Cruise is seen running up and down the side of the world’s tallest building — stunt work that he performed himself.
On the red carpet Monday, when asked why he would risk his life on such a stunt, Cruise replied, “I don’t know, man. I was thinking I wanted to entertain. When I saw the sequence that [director Brad Bird] designed, I mean, to put something like that on film. I was very excited about it.”
The actor says the stunt wasn’t just him, it took a lot of work from every department working on the film to, “pull it off and pull it off in very dynamic way.”
Cruise says ever since he was a little kid he’s wanted to entertain and to make movies, and he feels privileged to be able to do it. He says it’s something “he’s never taken for granted.”
Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol co-stars Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg. It opens nationwide tomorrow.
