(SAN FRANCISCO) — Trailing by three with nine seconds left in the game, 49ers’ quarterback Alex Smith threw the game winning touchdown pass, giving San Francisco a 36-32 win over the New Orleans Saints.
The dramatic victory comes on the 30 year anniversary of “the catch,” another famous moment in 49ers’ history.
“That was special,” San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh said after the game. “I don’t know if there was any thing ever better then that. I can’t remember winning a game in such spectacular fashion as this one.”
It was the Niners first playoff win since 2003.
They now await the winner of the Packers/Giants game, for the right to play in the Super Bowl.
