(GROTON, Mass.) — Brad Pitt was responsible for filling more seats in movie theatres in 2011 than any other star. That’s according to an annual poll of theatre owners and film buyers.
The Quiqley Publishing Company’s 80th Annual Poll of Motion Picture Exhibitors says Pitt was the actor responsible for generating the most box-office revenue in 2011, thanks to his appearances in the hit films Moneyball, The Tree of Life, and Happy Feet Two, for which he provided his voice.
George Clooney starred in The Ides of March and The Descendants in 2011, and finished second in the annual poll.
Movie theatre exhibitors named Jonah Hill and Rooney Mara the top money-making “stars of tomorrow.” Hill starred in Moneyball and The Sitter in 2011. Mara had a breakthrough performance with her role as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
