(LOS ANGELES) — Brad Pitt reveals in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he grew sick of himself in the late 90s, saying he was “smoking way too much dope…sitting on the couch and just turning into a doughnut.”
Pitt says his attitude towards life changed when he traveled to Morocco and saw poverty he had never witnessed before. The Moneyball star says the poor children touched him and almost overnight he decided something had to give, explaining, “I just quit. I stopped grass then, I mean pretty much, and decided to get off the couch.”
The actor and his partner of seven years, Angelina Jolie, have previously stated that they would not get married until gay marriage is legalized, but there seems to be a shift in their position.
Pitt tells the trade paper, “We’d actually like to and it seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out. It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment.”
When asked if he has popped the question, the actor replied, “I’m not going to go any further.”
Pitt and Jolie have six kids, and they apparently haven’t ruled out adding more.
“We haven’t closed the book on it. There’s a really nice balance in the house right now, but if we see the need and get that lightning bolt that says, ‘We can help this person; we could do something here,’ then absolutely,” said Pitt.
