Chiefs’ Matt Cassel Helps Woman Escape from House Fire

Jamie Squire/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — On any given week in the NFL, the quarterback can get too much credit or too much blame. But it would be hard not to give credit to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, however, after some off-the-field heroics may have saved the life of a woman whose home was on fire.
According to KMBC 9 News, Cassel’s wife noticed their neighbor’s home was ablaze when she saw smoke and flames coming from the chimney. In response, Cassel ran to the home, banged on the door and circled the house until his neighbor came outside. The woman said she had no idea her home was on fire until Cassel brought it to her attention. No one was injured in the fire.
“I know Matt wouldn’t want this kind of attention, but I definitely thought he was a hero last night,” one of Cassel’s neighbors told KMBC.
“I wasn’t heroic at all,” Cassel said responding to his neighbor’s comments. “I just ran up to the house and alerted them. The real heroes are the firefighters.”
The 29-year old Cassel has been with the Chiefs for the past three seasons, but missed the team’s final seven games of the 2011 season after breaking a bone in his throwing hand.
