He saw what happened to Boston in the early 90’s, when the C’s didn’t part with aging veterans Larry Bird, Kevin Mchale and Robert Parish.  That decision was a major reason the Celtics didn’t win a first round playoff series from the 1992-1993 season to the 2000-2001 season.

Despite this, Ainge is not totally sold on the idea.

“We’ve all known that there’s a window for this group,” Ainge said on WEEI. “We’re constantly evaluating that. But I don’t have anything on the books. I don’t have anything imminent. There’s nothing out there that I am actively doing. “I’m being patient with this group of guys. They believe they’re much better than they’re playing right now. Doc (Rivers) believes they’re much better than they’re playing right now. I believe that too.”

The Big Three consist of Ray Allen, who is 36; Kevin Garnett, who is 35; and Paul Pierce, who is 34.  The three came together in the 2007 off-season. They immediately won the 2007-2008 NBA Championship and were one game away from winning another in 2010.
