(LOS ANGELES) — Jim Carrey’s 24-year-old daughter is heading to Hollywood after passing her American Idol audition in an installment that aired Sunday night, but she didn’t have to camp out or wait for hours on end for her shot at fame like thousands of other hopefuls, RadarOnline reports.
The website claims Jane Carrey received special treatment because she’s the daughter of a celebrity.
A source tells RadarOnline, “She didn’t have to sleep outside and wait for hours to audition like everyone else. She basically had an appointment and showed up.”
The source says it’s doubtful the Idol judges gave Carrey special treatment, but the show did treat her like a VIP, adding, “Her audition was pre-arranged with the producers. She did not wait and line up for hours or days outside — she had a time, she showed up and went in.”
Carrey admitted in a taped piece that aired during the show that her famous last name “definitely helps and hurts.”
“I feel there’s kind of this pressure to maybe be better, because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying, ‘Oh, you only got there because of this,'” Carrey said.
When Carrey revealed who her famous father is during her audition, Jennifer Lopez said she remembered meeting her as a little girl when Lopez and Jim Carrey were both on In Living Color in the early ’90s.
Jane advanced to the next round after performing Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About.” Randy Jackson said he heard potential in her voice while Lopez liked the feel of her voice, but encouraged her to try to connect with her audience.
Afterwards, Jane called her dad. Jim Carrey said his daughter is wonderful and he, “can’t wait for the world to understand what she has.”
Jane Carrey’s mom is Jim Carrey’s first wife, Melissa Womer. The pair married in 1987 and divorced in 1995.
