ESPN: Athletics Interested In Manny Ramirez

J. Meric/Getty Images(ORLANDO) — The Oakland Athletics need offense, and Manny Ramirez needs a team to play for next season. The two could be a match made in baseball heaven. Sources have told ESPNDeportesLosAngeles.com, the A’s are “very interested” in making Ramirez the team’s designated hitter for the 2012 season.
The 39-year old Ramirez spent last season with the Tampa Bay Rays, but played in just five games after he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs for a second time in his career. As a result, he was suspended for 100 games, but instead, he decided to retire from baseball.
Major League Baseball has announced that Ramirez will just have to serve 50 games of his suspension if a team signs him. Last seasons the Athletics ranked 20th in runs, 24th in batting batting average, 22nd in on base percentage, and 25th in slugging percentage out of 30 teams in Major League Baseball.
