NFL? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1325884844062National Football League(NEW YORK) — The Oakland Raiders are moving on from the Al Davis era. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team will hire Green Bay Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie to become the new general manager.

The two sides had been engaged in talks, as McKenzie would apparently only accept the position if he had the powers and responsibilities of a typical NFL general manger, which was not the case when the late Al Davis was running the show in Oakland.

“Reggie’s a tremendous evaluator,” former Raiders executive Ron Wolf told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “He can tell you who can play and who can’t play. That’s what it’s all about. Some can write reports but can’t tell you who to play. Whatever that is, he has that. He has a feel.”

McKenzie does have previous ties with the Raiders, he played linebacker for the team from 1985-1988.
