(DAMASCUS, Syria) — Funeral services were held for victims of a Friday bombing in Damascus.
BBC News reports that thousands attended the state-organized funeral at the Al-Hassan mosque on Saturday. An apparent suicide bomber detonated explosives at a busy intersection in Midan killing 26 people including security officials, and injuring dozens.
The Syrian government has been criticized for brutal crackdowns on protestors who have been taking to the streets asking President Bashar al-Assad to step down.
The government said they would fight back against the perpetrators of the bombing though opponents say the state is responsible for the bloodshed on Friday.
