Hue Jackson Out As Raiders Head Coach

Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images(ALAMEDA, Calif.) — The coaching carousel continues in Oakland. The Raiders fired head coach Hue Jackson Tuesday after just one year.
The Silver and Black will be looking for their seventh head coach in 10 seasons, following Bill Callahan, Norv Turner, Art Shell, Lane Kiffin, Tom Cable and Jackson.
“I felt there was a need for change at the head coaching position from the top,” new Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said. “We’re moving into a new era. No disrespect to coach Jackson, but this is something I wanted to do, start anew.”
McKenzie was hired by the Raiders from Green Bay’s front office last week, becoming Oakland’s first general manager since the death of longtime owner Al Davis.
Following Davis’ passing in October 2011, Jackson took over personnel decisions. His big move came when he acquired quarterback Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a 2012 first-round draft pick and a conditional 2013 second-round draft pick. The two-time Pro Bowler finished the 2011 campaign with 2,753 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
The Raiders began the season 7-4, but lost four of their final five games to finish the season 8-8. They failed to qualify for the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season.
