Mayweather Jr. Calls Out Manny Pacquiao
Published at(NEW YORK) — If there was ever a question who Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to fight on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, he made it even clearer on Tuesday.
On his personal Twitter account, Mayweather Jr. tweeted: “Manny Pacquiao I’m calling you out let’s fight May 5 and give the world what they want to see,” read Mayweather’s first tweet.
Then he followed with: “My Jail Sentence was pushed back because the date was locked in. Step up Punk.” He was referencing his sentence from his guilty plea on a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges, stemming from a fight with his ex-girlfriend in front of their two children.
Pacquiao did not respond but his promoter, Top Rank’s Bob Arum, told the Los Angeles Times that May 5 doesn’t work.
“June 9 is perfect,” Arum told The Times from the Philippines, where he is meeting with Pacquiao to talk about his next opponent. “May 5 is out, that’s impossible.”
Mayweather Jr. is scheduled to begin serving his 87-day sentence starting June 1.
