According to a report from the Phuket Gazette, Renner and some friends were hanging out in the Rachada Pub early Wednesday morning when local hotel manager Vorasit Issara was attacked by six of the pub’s employees.

Cops say Issara was stabbed by a knife-wielding man and slashed by another who was armed with a “homemade axe.”  The victim is recovering in the hospital with serious injuries to the stomach and neck.

Although the local reportage said the victim had been hanging out with Renner, and that the actor suffered minor injuries in the fracas, a spokeswoman tells ABC News that wasn’t the case.

In a statement, the rep said Renner, “was indeed in a bar in Phuket Thailand as a vicious attack on a patron took place but was not injured or involved.  He exited as the fight took place.”

The rep said Renner is in Asia filming The Bourne Legacy in Manila.

The six employees were charged with attempted murder.
