NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Gets Five-Year Contract Extension

Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Roger Goodell will be running the show for the NFL until at least the 2018 season. The league has agreed to a five-year contract extension with Goodell to remain the league’s commissioner. His original deal was set to expire in March of 2014.
According to the league, a resolution had been reached during an owner’s meeting back in December to negotiate a new deal with Goodell. Goodell replaced Paul Tagliabue in 2006 and has since negotiated a 10-year labor agreement and nine-year TV network extensions, and has overseen the league as it enters an all-time level in popularity.
“I speak on behalf of 32 NFL club owners in saying we are fortunate to have Roger Goodell as our commissioner,” Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank told Daniel Kaplan of the SportsBusiness Journal.
Financial terms have yet to be released. Goodell made around $10 million per year under his old contract.
