(NEW YORK) — Free agent first baseman Carlos Pena will be headed back to his former team, the Tampa Bay Rays. On Friday, he agreed to a one-year deal after spending 2011 with the Chicago Cubs.
According to sources who spoke with ESPN.com, the contract is worth $7.25 million.
He’ll be improving an already explosive Tampa Bay Rays lineup, which also acquired Luke Scott last week. The Rays were 91-71 last season and got into the playoffs on the last day of the season, winning the AL Wild Card.
Last year with Chicago, Pena batted .225 with 28 home runs and 80 RBIs.
