Phillies Reach One-Year Deal with Hamels
Published at(PHILADELPHIA) — The Philadelphia Phillies and pitcher Cole Hamels agreed on a $15 million, one-year contract on Tuesday. By signing, he avoided arbitration.
Hamels, who was the 2008 World Series MVP, is eligible for free agency after 2012, and is expected to earn at least a $100 million deal, according to baseball sources.
The one-year deal makes Hamels’ the highest arbitration-eligible pitcher in history.
The two-time All-Star finished 14-9 with a 2.79 ERA in 32 games.
