President Obama Welcomes The Bruins To The White House

Alex Wong/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) -- President Barack Obama welcomed the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins to the White House Monday. The Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games in the 2011 Stanley Cup finals to win their first title in 39 years.

“These Bruins understand that winning the Stanley Cup is more than just men on ice, it’s about the people that stand behind them,” President Obama said.

The team was also honored for their community work off the ice. The Boston Bruins Foundation has donated more than $7 million to various charities throughout New England.
