The 41-year-old replaces Greg Schiano, who left the university to become the head coach of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Flood has been with Rutgers since 2005, first as an offensive line coach and then as an assistant head coach.

“We are going to raise you from young men to grown men and we are going to win championships while we do it,” Flood said of the message he wants to instill in his squad.

Flood takes over a team that went 9-4 last season, including a victory over Iowa State in the Pinstripe Bowl. The Scarlet Knights have had six winning seasons over the last seven years.

Flood’s contract is for five years and is worth $750,000, with $100,000 added on with each new year.
