(MELBOURNE, Australia) — Maria Sharapova is headed to the finals of the Austrailian Open after she beat Petra Kvitova 6-2, 3-6, and 6-4 on Wednesday night.
With the victory, Sharapova will take on Victoria Azarenka on Saturday. The winner will not only determine the champion but also number one in the world ranking.
Sharapova broke Kvitova’s serve in the last game to finish off her opponent.
“In the third set, I felt she always had the advantage because I was always down on my serve,” said Sharapova. I just told myself, ‘You just gotta go for it; don’t let her finish off the points like she likes to.'”
