(NEW YORK) — According to ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Denver Broncos’ quarterback Tim Tebow earned $250,000 for beating the Pittsburgh Steelers’ in overtime on Sunday.
Reason for it? Tebow has an escalator of $250,000 in his contract for each playoff victory assuming he participated in at least 70 percent of Denver’s plays during the requisite season, according to an NFL source.
He beat that 70 percent by three, playing in 73 percent of the Broncos’ plays this season. After he tossed the 80-yard touchdown pass that stunned Pittsburgh and made Denver 29-23 winners in overtime, he cashed in as well.
That 80-yard overtime winner, according to Twitter, brought in a record 9,420 tweets per second.
The New England Patriots’ will be Tebow’s next chance of adding another $250,000 to his bank on Saturday night.
