(NEW YORK) — Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was supposed to be interviewing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach position Friday, but that’s not going to happen anymore. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Phillips has withdrawn his name from consideration for the position.
Phillips is in his first season as the Texans defensive coordinator after spending the past four seasons as the Dallas Cowboys head coach. He also served as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, two seasons with the Denver Broncos, and served as an interim coach for the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons.
The Buccaneers are searching for a new coach after recently letting go of Raheem Morris, who led the team to an underwhelming 4-12 record this season. The team has already met with Marty Schottenheimer, Brad Childress, and Mike Sherman.
