Yoenis Cespedes Officially A Free Agent

Major League Baseball(NEW YORK) — The Yoenis Cespedes sweepstakes has officially begun. The 26-year old Cuban outfielder, who has been hyped all offseason, has established residency in the Dominican Republic, making him a free agent.

Major League Baseball had told Cespedes that he cannot finalize a contract until he obtains an unblocking license from the United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control because of his status as a Cuban national who has established residency in a new country.

The big question is though, is which teams will make a serious run at signing him. He has been linked to the Marlins, Tigers, White Sox, Orioles, and Phillies, among others. He is expected to receive a contract worth more than the $30 million that Cuban pitcher Aroldis Chapman got from the Cincinnati Reds back in 2010.
