Astros Broadcaster To Step Down After 2012 Season

Bob Levey/WireImage(HOUSTON) — Longtime Houston Astros radio broadcaster Milo Hamilton is calling it quits after this upcoming season. It will be Hamilton’s 28th season behind the microphone for the ‘Stros and his 59th year overall calling big league games.
“It’s been a great game for me,” Hamilton said at a news conference Wednesday. “I did football for 25 years and basketball for over 40 years, but baseball was the greatest game in the world when I started and still is today.”
The 84-year-old Hamilton was welcomed into the broadcast wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992. He has called some of the most memorable moments in big league history, including Hank Aaron’s record-breaking 715th career home run.
Hamilton will still be around the club after he steps down, working on special events and making occasional appearances in the broadcast booth.
The Astros will honor the legendary broadcaster with “Milo Hamilton Day” on September 2nd, the same day he celebrates his 85th birthday.
