According to multiple sources, the 70 year old desperately wants to return to coaching the Huskies before they head to the Big East tournament on March 6.

The Hall of Famer has been on a medical leave of absence since Feb. 3 because of spinal stenosis, but was informed by his surgeon that he should feel immediate relief after recovery.

The Huskies are 17-10 overall, and 7-8 in the Big East. Under associate coach George Blaney they have went 3-3.

If the surgery goes as planned, the only concern would be Calhoun’s vulnerability on the sidelines less than a week out of surgery.

March 3 will be the season finale against Pittsburgh.
