“We were speaking about Jeremy Lin…as we flew here to Andrews Air Force base this morning. …It’s just a great story and the president was saying as much this morning,” Carney said in response to a question from ABC News aboard Air Force 1.

“It’s terrific for the New York Knicks, but it’s the kind of sports story that transcends sport itself. …Yes, he’s very impressed and fully up to speed. He has watched Lin play already and did see the highlights from last night’s game.”

Thanks to Lin’s fairy tale February, ratings of Knicks television broadcast have soared 70 percent, and the publicly traded stock of Madison Square Garden has hit a 52-week high. Lin’s T-shirt is now the No. 1 seller on NBA.com, and arenas around the NBA are selling out tickets to Knicks games.

Lin, the first Taiwanese-American to play in the NBA, has scored more than 20 points in each of the six games he’s played, including 38 against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers last Friday night.
