Deadline.com reports the three-and-a-half-hour broadcast was seen by 39.9 million viewers, marking the second-biggest audience ever for the Grammys. The 1984 Grammys drew 43.8 million viewers. Last year’s Grammys telecast attracted 26.5 million.

During Sunday’s Grammy Awards, host LL Cool J recited a prayer for Houston, who died the previous day.  Jennifer Hudson later performed “I Will Always Love You” in tribute to Houston.

The night’s big winner was British singer Adele, who claimed six Grammys, including album of the year.
