King Wins First Truck Race of NASCAR Season
Published at(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) — The NASCAR Truck Series kicked off its season on Friday night.
Red Horse Racing rookie John King came out victorious after he turned leader Johnny Sauter around on the second of three attempts at a green-white-checkered finish. King held on to win the first Truck Series race of the season.
Coming in second was King’s teammate, Timothy Peters.
“It’s unbelievable, a dream come true,” King said.
King also commented on his contact with Sauter.
“I’m a rookie,” King said afterward on the altercation with Sauter. “I’ve never pushed in my life. This is my first time at Daytona or any Superspeedway. I apologize to him from the bottom of my heart. It wasn’t my intention at all. I couldn’t get off of him.”
