New Jersey lawmakers sent the bill to Christie earlier Friday, after it passed in the Democratic-controlled state assembly Thursday.  He later announced his move to veto in a statement from his Trenton office.

A priority for Democratic leaders in the state, sponsors of the bill plan to gather enough votes to override the veto.  Earlier this week, Christie said he didn’t think Democrats would be able to collect the votes needed, according to Bloomberg.

Supporters of the bill will have until January 2014 to gather a two-thirds majority. They will need 27 votes in the Senate and 54 in the assembly.
