Sho-Ban High School Seeks Reparations from Racial Incident

(POCATELLO, ID) The School Board for Shoshone-Bannock High School continues on its path to right what has been a decade of wrongs toward its students. In a recent basketball game between the Chiefs and Clark County, two Shoban players were accused by a Clark County supporter of consuming alcohol prior to a game. Sheriff May of Clark County allegedly confronted the two boys, and without parental consent, demanded the boys submit to a breathalyzer test. The school’s athletic administration intervened as guardians of the minors. Since the game, the school administration has asked the Clark County School District for an apology and to come together to draft some type of fan control. The school’s athletic teams are regularly rediculed when on the road, generally by the adults in the audience. Shoban is seeking diversity training for officials, addressing negative and harmful racial stereotypes. The administration is planning on filing a complaint with the Idaho High School Activities Association and the Idaho Civil Rights Commission citing sportsmanship wrongdoing in this incident as well as racial discrimination.
