(NEW YORK) — The much-anticipated trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man hit the Web on Tuesday.
The two-and-a-half-minute clip bills the movie as “the untold story” of Spider-Man, portrayed by The Social Network actor Andrew Garfield.
Much like the 2002 Spider-Man film that starred Tobey Maguire as the Marvel superhero, The Amazing Spider-Man explores how Peter Parker became a web-slinger — though the events that lead up to Parker’s transformation are different this time around.
The trailer touches upon Spider-Man/Parker’s relationships with his parents; his love interest Gwen Stacy, portrayed by Emma Stone; and Gwen’s father, a police officer played by Denis Leary who doesn’t take kindly to Spidey’s crime-fighting efforts. We’re also introduced to Rhys Ifans’ villainous Lizard.
The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3.
