‘The Artist’ Has Big Night at the BAFTAs, Wins Seven Awards
Published at(LONDON) — The Artist captured seven awards Sunday night at the BAFTAs, the British equivalent to the Oscars.
The silent movie was named best film, and its lead star, Jean Dujardin, received the best leading actor prize. Michel Hazanavicius earned awards for best director and best original screenplay for his work on The Artist.
Meryl Streep won the award for best leading actress, for The Iron Lady. The supporting actor and actress prizes went to Beginners star Christopher Plummer and The Help star Octavia Spencer, respectively.
The Gary Oldman drama Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy received the award for outstanding British film.
