More than 200,000 troops took part in the annual large-scale drill, known as “Key Resolve.”

Pyongyang has called the drills an “unpardonable infringement” on their “sovereignty and dignity” and has threatened Seoul and Washington with an all-out war, saying there would be “catastrophic consequences.”

The U.S. military says Pyongyang was warned of the exercise a month ago.

The drills will last nearly two weeks and will be followed by additional ground and naval exercises.
